Included in this 10-hour course are lessons covering:

  1. Introduction to NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Lesson Plans (30 Minutes)
  2. Teaching Pistol Lesson I: Pistol Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling (90 Minutes)
  3. Teaching Pistol Lesson II: Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals Pistol Shooting (90 Minutes)
  4. Basic Pistol Shooting Instructional Method (60 Minutes)
  5.  Teaching Pistol Lesson III: Shooting Positions and Shooting Qualification (90 Minutes)
  6.  Evaluating and Improving Performance of Beginning Pistol Shooters (60 Minutes)
  7.  Teaching Pistol Lesson IV: Scoring Targets, and Selecting and Maintaining a Pistol (45 Minutes)
  8.  Teaching Pistol Lesson V: Continued Opportunities for Skill Development (45 Minutes)
  9.  Using NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course Evaluation, Performance Requirements Checklist, and Pistol Instructor Examination and Course Conclusion (90 Minutes)

The GOAL of the Pistol Instructor Course is:
To develop NRA Certified Instructors who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Courses. 


The Pistol Instructor Course is classes of eight or fewer students, designed to provide a hands-on introduction to teaching students to conduct the NRA Basic Pistol courses.  This course is approximately ten hours long and includes classroom and firing  range time learning to teach the basic fundamentals of shooting a pistol.  Students will learn the Introduction to NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Lesson Plans

  • Teaching Pistol Lesson I: Pistol Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling
  • Teaching Pistol Lesson II: Ammunition Knowledge and the Fundamentals of Pistol Shooting, Basic Pistol Shooting Instructional Method
  • Teaching Pistol Lesson III: Shooting Positions and Shooting Qualification, Evaluating and Improving Performance of Beginning Pistol Shooters
  • Teaching Pistol Lesson IV: Scoring Targets, and Selecting and Maintaining a Pistol 
  • Teaching Pistol Lesson V: Continued Opportunities for Skill Development, and Using the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course Evaluation, and the Performance Requirements Checklist.

Students receive a course completion certificate, a wallet ID card, and a PowerPoint presentation notebook from Halls Firearm Training.
